CETL4HealthNE Centre for Excellence in Healthcare Professional Education

Cetl4HealthNE is a consortium involving the Universities of Newcastle (lead), Durham, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside as well as Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, North East Strategic Health Authority and North Tyneside Primary Care Trust. It aims to develop new ways of sharing best practice in healthcare education throughout the range of health professions spanning doctors, dentists, nurses, therapists and pharmacists, in order to meet the needs of the modernised NHS and the growing and changing expectations of patients.

Saville Video Conferencing University of Liverpool Cancer Research Centre

A key factor was the provision of videoconferencing between NHS and university sites which can be used for innovative teaching and learning. As a contractor and partner of BT, we equipped a total of sixteen sites, including North Tyneside Hospital (illustrated). Each location is fitted with custom-built videoconferencing and interactive presentation facilities, featuring a Polycom VSX7400e system.

Videoconferencing images are displayed on a 42” NEC plasma screen, with audio routed via a high quality amplifier to wall mounted speakers. A second plasma display with a touch sensitive SMART board overlay enables interactive teaching sessions to be shared with other partners.

The source equipment is rack mounted in a bespoke veneered cabinet including a DVD/VHS player. A cordless AMX touch panel allows teaching sessions to be controlled from anywhere in the room.
