"Whilst networked, the installation allows for very simple transmission via a laptop PC"
When Cardinal Newman College began searching for ways to enrich their students’ educational and social progression, they set out to make a big impression.
The College in Preston strives to be a centre of educational excellence for the community, through high quality teaching and learning plus dedicated pastoral care. Cardinal Newman’s appeal must be clearly demonstrated so the college initiated a refurbishment of highly visible public areas including the canteen and social areas.
Rick Boyce, Projects and Development Manager at the college said: “We were really looking to achieve the WOW factor - to invest in the best and make a high impact”.
The college sought reputable IT suppliers through the education purchasing
consortium. It quickly became apparent that whilst several were able
to supply boxes. Saville stood out as having the knowledge and confidence
to provide a total service.
Saville was able to provide assistance, from concept and design through to the final installation. We were also able to supply product expertise with close support direct from the manufacturer.
The college team was initially attracted to the potential impact of NEC’s 82” LCD screen, however it became clear that a videowall solution would provide the flexibility they were looking for. After considering a 4x4 configuration, the college went on to select a nine screen videowall of 40” NEC P401 LCD screens for the student common room.
The team produce their own screen content with input provided by administration, staff and students aimed at increasing communication, informing students about courses, student services and events. Whilst networked, the installation allows for very simple transmission via a laptop PC, allowing the videowall to be used for presentations at staff meetings and for social events such as race nights - with convincing race exhilaration conveyed by the huge display.
The signage network designed and installed by Saville also includes 40” NEC information screens in the restaurant, corridors and other busy public areas.
